Just six months after entering the South African wind power market, Second Wind has sold eight Triton sonic wind profilers and partnered with WISE-Wind Information Sentinel, a global wind data services provider, to support anticipated demand for Second Wind’s remote sensing technology.

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) has announced that it has received several new orders for its proprietary D-VAR reactive compensation solution for wind farms in the United Kingdom, including two orders from Nordex UK Ltd.

REpower Systems and the Saint-Laurent Énergies Consortium (SLE) have concluded a contract for the delivery of 150 wind turbines. The turbines have a total power of 300MW and are destined for the Lac Alfred wind farm project in the Canadian province of Québec. In two phases, REpower will deliver, install and commission 54 MM82 turbines and 96 MM92 turbines.

Atmospheric Systems Corporation (ASC) has annouced that it has entered into a research collaboration with Wind Measurement Technologies (WMT), a division of Auckland UniServices Limited (UniServices) for the development and commercialisation of a common volume Bi-static Doppler SoDAR system to be used primarily in the wind industry as a remote sensor for wind assessment.

ABB has won orders worth US$ 32 million to supply five new transformer substations and build overhead transmission lines to serve 14 wind farms with a generation capacity of about 300MW. The orders were placed in the fourth quarter of 2010 by Renova Energia SA, a Brazilian power company.
