Smulders HSM, part of Eiffage Métal, has started construction of the offshore substation topside and jacket foundation for the East Anglia TWO project. The work follows the award of the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract by ScottishPower Renewables, part of the Iberdrola Group, in 2025.
Fabrication of the high-voltage topside is underway at Smulders HSM’s Stormpolder yard in the Netherlands, while construction of the jacket foundation has commenced at the company’s yard in Newcastle, UK. The topside will measure approximately 58 × 35 × 30 metres and weigh around 5,100 tonnes. The jacket will measure about 40 × 32 × 58 metres and weigh approximately 3,450 tonnes.
The East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm will be located in the southern North Sea, around 33 km from the Suffolk coast at its nearest point off Southwold and 37 km from Lowestoft. The project is expected to reach an installed capacity of up to 960 MW.
Initial engineering activities began in summer 2024 under an early works agreement. Installation of the jacket is scheduled for 2027, with topside installation planned later the same year.
