Ofgem has announced a shortlist of five bidders that will compete to own and operate the offshore electricity transmission links for three North Sea wind farms off Great Britain’s east coast. They will compete for the transmission assets connecting the East Anglia Three, Inch Cape and Dogger Bank C wind farms to Great Britain’s power grid. The group includes both established participants and others returning after a period of absence.
The transmission assets have a combined estimated value of £3.5 billion. They include onshore and offshore cables, converter stations and substations that connect offshore wind generation in the North Sea to the grid, supporting electricity supply and energy security.
The shortlisted bidders will now be invited to submit formal tenders. Ofgem will then select a preferred bidder for each project, who will be granted a transmission licence to operate one or more of the offshore transmission assets.
The bidder groups are Diamond Transmission Partners, Equitix, the Gravis Sosteneo Consortium, John Laing, and Transmission Capital Partners.
