Unloading of the wind turbine components at the Port of Haren copyright Rhenus SE Co. KGEnercon and logistics partner Rhenus have used the new push barge Rhenus Berlin I for the first time to transport wind turbine components via inland waterways. Steel tower sections for Enercon E-138 EP3 and E-115 EP3 turbines were loaded onto the 100-metre-long vessel at the Port of Emden and transported by water to the project area.

The cargo was unloaded at the Port of Haren/Emsland in Lower Saxony, before continuing by road to the wind farm construction site in Emlichheim. The inland vessel, built to Enercon’s specifications, consists of a push boat and a three-segment barge. With its external propulsion unit, the coupled push boat provides flexibility and allows navigation through narrow lock chambers. Operating mainly within the North German canal network, Rhenus Berlin I offers Enercon an alternative transport option when road routes are restricted by construction or other obstacles.
