Trianel Windpark Borkum I has prequalified to participate in the balancing energy market with around 70 MW of capacity and has been supplying negative secondary balancing power since July 2026. Marketing started successfully on 22 July 2026. The offshore wind farm in the North Sea can therefore contribute to grid stability in addition to generating electricity. Balancing energy helps maintain the balance between electricity generation and consumption and keeps the grid frequency stable at 50 hertz.
NextOcean to equip Esvagt Njord with motion prediction technology

Wind and solar generation continued to grow in the USA during the first half of 2026, with wind-generated electricity increasing by 6.5% compared with the same period in 2025. Overall renewable electricity generation increased by 10.9% and accounted for 30.2% of total US electricity generation, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reviewed by the Sun Day Campaign.
Kernel secures financing for Ukrainian wind farm

Kernel has signed a loan agreement with Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) to finance construction of its first wind power project, a 94.5 MW wind farm in central Ukraine. The wind farm will comprise 21 wind turbines supplied and installed by Vestas. The project will also include industrial battery energy storage systems to help balance power output during peak hours.

Hexicon has reported several developments involving its floating offshore wind projects and technology during and after the second quarter of 2026. In April 2026, Hexicon entered into and completed a share purchase agreement with a global provider of marine and offshore engineering solutions for the divestment of the TwinHub project, held through Wave Hub Ltd. Hexicon divested its entire 100% ownership in the project, including related assets and liabilities, for a total purchase price of GBP 1.

Europe is moving from offshore wind targets towards project delivery, with governments revising auction designs, revenue stabilisation mechanisms and permitting rules, according to GlobalData. GlobalData's Europe Renewable Energy Policy Handbook 2026 identifies offshore wind as increasingly strategic infrastructure rather than simply another power generation technology. The report notes that offshore wind is among the renewable technologies capable of adding large volumes of low-carbon electricity.
Mingyang completes first 5 MW ultra-low-wind-speed turbine

Mingyang Smart Energy has completed the first Mingyang Tianqi MCD5.0 MW ultra-low-wind-speed wind turbine at its production base in Guizhou, China. The MCD5.0 MW uses Mingyang's new medium-speed compact semi-direct-drive technology and has been developed for areas with low wind speeds. The turbine has a cut-in wind speed of 2.5 m/s and a swept area of 7.74 m²/kW.
Sirius signs design contract for two construction support vessels

Deme Group reported higher turnover from its Offshore Energy segment in the first half of 2026, while overall group performance remained stable. Fleet utilisation in Offshore Energy was 18.2 weeks, or around 70%, compared with 22.9 weeks a year earlier. Deme attributed the decrease to the entry of two new vessels into the fleet ahead of full deployment, the repositioning of two vessels from the US East Coast to Europe and scheduled repair work on other vessels.
