A total of 33 clean energy projects in Scotland, representing 1.4 GW of generation capacity, have been awarded Contracts for Difference in the UK Government’s latest auction round. The awards were confirmed on 10 February as part of Allocation Round 7a.
Onshore wind accounted for the majority of the Scottish capacity, with 21 projects totalling 1.1 GW securing contracts. The results underline Scotland’s continued contribution to onshore wind deployment within the UK support framework.
Solar photovoltaic projects in Scotland secured a combined 330 MW across 11 projects, representing the highest level of solar capacity awarded in the country through the scheme to date. In addition, 2.4 MW of tidal stream capacity was awarded, adding to Scotland’s existing pipeline of marine energy developments.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero noted that the latest results follow a separate allocation round announced in the previous month in which two offshore wind projects in Scotland secured a combined 1.5 GW of capacity.
