Enercon is scaling up industrial production of main components at its Aurich site. As part of a wider ramp-up programme, the Center of Excellence Mechatronic – Enercon’s lead plant for nacelles and rotor hubs – is preparing for increased output.
To support planned investments of up to €30 million in machinery, the plant has received a grant of approximately €3.7 million from the State of Lower Saxony and the German Federal Government. The grant comes from the joint federal-state programme “Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures” (GRW). It will be used to improve efficiency and reduce lead times in the production of 6–7 MW turbine components. Planned upgrades include automation and digitalisation measures at the Aurich facility. The Center of Excellence Mechatronic employs over 1,000 people and produces E-nacelles, compact nacelles, rotor hubs, E-modules and converters for Enercon’s EP3 and EP5 platforms. The site also handles component repairs and refurbishments. Together with the Center of Excellence Generator in Magdeburg, the Aurich plant forms the core of Enercon’s global production network. Its main output is the E-175 EP5 turbine, which features a 175-metre rotor and a rated capacity of 6–7 MW.
