National Grid and TenneT Germany announce GriffinLink interconnector project
- Category: Projects and Contracts
National Grid and TenneT Germany will partner to develop GriffinLink, a multi-purpose interconnector that could link British and German offshore wind to both electricity systems. The project will explore the potential to simultaneously connect up to 2 GW of offshore wind between the UK and Germany.
Victoria’s first offshore wind auction set to open in August
- Category: Industry News
Victoria will launch its first offshore wind auction in August 2026, with an initial capacity of 2 GW. The Request for Tender will mark a key step in establishing the state’s offshore wind industry. The Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM), endorsed in principle by Australia’s Energy Ministers in December, provides a framework for new renewable energy projects, including offshore wind, to help Victoria meet its renewable energy targets.
EMEC launches DeepWind project to develop deepwater and floating wind test facility
- Category: Projects and Contracts
The European Marine Energy Centre has started an 18-month project to advance its proposed DeepWind test site for deepwater and floating offshore wind. Supported by 50% matched funding through The Crown Estate’s Supply Chain Accelerator, the programme builds on EMEC’s earlier concept design for a national floating wind test facility.
German offshore wind industry urges urgent policy reform to safeguard expansion and investment
- Category: Industry News
The German offshore wind industry has called for urgent political action following slower-than-expected capacity growth and setbacks in the auction system. Industry associations and the OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE Foundation reported that 41 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 518 MW were commissioned in Germany in 2025. By the end of the year, 65 foundations had been installed. A further 19 turbines with a combined capacity of 278 MW had been erected but were not yet feeding electricity into the grid. In total, Germany had 1,680 offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity of 9,740 MW at the end of 2025.
EIA foresees 99% of net new generating capacity in 2026 coming from renewables & batteries
- Category: Industry News
Wind power remained a leading renewable source of electricity in the USA in 2025, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration analysed by the Sun Day Campaign. During the first eleven months of the year, wind turbines generated 10.1% of total electricity, an increase of 1.2% compared with the same period in 2024. In November alone, wind generation was 2.0% higher than a year earlier.

Amprion and Energinet advance offshore interconnector between Germany and Denmark
- Category: Projects and Contracts
Germany and Denmark have signed an agreement on a strategic energy partnership at the North Sea summit in Hamburg. The agreement includes a potential offshore interconnector to be developed by Amprion and Energinet. The bilateral agreement builds on existing European initiatives involving transmission system operators and energy companies. It aims to improve the use of offshore wind generation and to support coordinated and cost-efficient planning of offshore wind energy in the North Sea region.
REFRESH project demonstrates use of recycled glass fibre in new wind blade section
- Category: Product News
The EU-funded REFRESH project has shown that glass fibres recovered from decommissioned wind turbine blades can be reused in new blade components. The study involved CETMA (Italy), Gjenkraft AS (Norway), Cormatex (Italy) and ÉireComposites (Ireland), who processed thermally recycled fibres into a nonwoven mat and applied it in a non-structural section of a new blade.
