Vestas has announced two wind turbine orders in Italy, totalling 105 MW. SIMIC Group has ordered 10 V163-4.5 MW turbines, with a combined capacity of 45 MW, for the Castellani project. The order includes a 20-year service agreement. Delivery and commissioning are planned for the second half of 2027.
Heerema opens engineering hub in Porto

Heerema Marine Contractors is establishing an engineering hub in Porto, Portugal, through its newly formed Heerema Portugal Lda. T12 Engineering secures funding for floating wind technology

The country plans to establish an artificial island in the North Sea with an initial capacity of 3 GW, alongside another island-based hub at Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. These hubs are intended to collect electricity from offshore wind turbines, transmit power to shore and neighbouring countries, and convert surplus electricity into green fuels through Power-to-X technologies. Industrialisation and standardisation could cut north sea offshore wind costs

DNV has quantified that standardising turbine designs and securing predictable project pipelines could reduce the average lifetime cost of electricity from North Sea offshore wind by up to 28% by 2050 in a high-volume scenario. DNV led the joint industry project (JIP), involving eight companies from across the European offshore wind supply chain, in response to rising project costs, uneven auction results and stop-start development pipelines. The study models the levelised cost of energy (LCoE) under three North Sea scenarios between 2025 and 2050. It assesses longer production runs for current turbine platforms as an additional way of reducing costs alongside turbine upscaling.
South Korea to designate 25 GW of preliminary offshore wind zones by 2031

Vard launches offshore construction vessel for Dong Fang Offshore

Vard has launched the hull of a new offshore subsea construction vessel being built for Taiwanese offshore company Dong Fang Offshore. The vessel, designated NB 988, was launched at Vard’s shipyard in Brăila, Romania. Following the launch, the hull will be transferred to Vard Søviknes in Norway, where the vessel will undergo final outfitting, commissioning and preparation for delivery.
