Global wind turbine installations reached 127 GW in 2024

Wind turbine manufacturers installed 127 GW of new capacity in 2024, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC) annual Supply Side Data report. A total of 23,098 wind turbines were installed globally in 2024 by 29 manufacturers. Of these, 18 were based in Asia-Pacific, 8 in Europe, 2 in the Americas, and 1 in the Middle East.
Baltic Sea Transmission System Operators outline offshore grid roadmap

Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from eight Baltic Sea countries have published a joint expert paper calling for increased cross-border cooperation on offshore wind development and transmission infrastructure. The initiative, known as the Baltic Offshore Grid Initiative (BOGI), includes TSOs from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden.

Leading purchasers of clean electricity included companies from the Fortune 100 and 500 lists, particularly utilities and major technology firms. Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Google together contracted 11.3GW of clean energy capacity in 2024—comparable to the total installed clean power in Florida, the USA’s fifth largest clean energy state. This reflects the increasing demand for renewable energy to power the expanding data centre sector.
Octopus Energy launches fund for clean energy investment

Octopus Energy Generation has launched a new investment fund aimed at pension schemes and private wealth investors, providing access to renewable energy projects around the world. The CG Octopus Energy Sustainable Growth Fund I (Astris) offers exposure to more than 50 renewable energy projects across 15 countries.
