The American Clean Power Association has released its Snapshot of Clean Power in 2024, showing a significant year for renewable energy expansion. The industry added 49 GW of new capacity, a 33% increase from the previous record of 37 GW in 2023. This brings total clean power capacity in the United States to 313 GW.

Clean energy made up 93% of all new capacity installed in 2024, exceeding the five-year average of 75%. Utility-scale solar accounted for a large share of this growth, with over 33 GW added during the year. Energy storage capacity also expanded, with more than 11 GW installed, supporting grid stability as renewable generation increases. Wind power remains a key contributor, with 40 GW in the development pipeline, including 20 GW currently under construction.

Manufacturing within the sector also saw growth, with 46 new component manufacturing projects starting production in 2024 across the wind, solar, and energy storage supply chains. This expansion is expected to support further development and investment in clean energy infrastructure.

Several states saw particularly strong increases in renewable capacity. Mississippi, Louisiana, and Kentucky more than doubled their operational clean energy capacity in 2024, reflecting broader adoption of renewables across different regions.

These figures indicate a continued shift towards cleaner energy sources in the United States, with renewables playing an increasing role in electricity generation.
