The vessel Rotra Futura has been delivered on schedule, two years after the contract was signed in April 2023. The handover took place on 30 March at Zhenjiang Shipyards in China. Its sister vessel, Rotra Horizon, was launched just four days later and is expected to be delivered in July 2025.
Developed by deugro in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa and Amasus Offshore, the new vessels are part of an ongoing strategy to improve offshore wind logistics. Building on earlier vessels Rotra Mare and Rotra Vente, the newbuilds are specifically designed to transport increasingly large and heavy offshore wind turbine components.
Each vessel measures 167.6 by 26 metres and features forward-placed accommodation and bridge to maximise cargo space. Key features include a roll-on/roll-off ramp, three cranes, and a gantry system that allows blades to be stacked in three tiers. The vessels aim to reduce emissions and fuel consumption through hybrid propulsion, waste heat recovery, and improved hull design, while meeting International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier 3 standards.
The Rotra fleet has so far transported over 7.8 million freight tonnes of offshore wind equipment, contributing to the installation of more than 9 GW of wind power.
