Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Boreas has arrived in the Netherlands after a journey of nearly 14,700 nautical miles from China. The vessel will now undergo outfitting and finishing in the Netherlands before being christened and deployed on its first offshore wind project.
Currently docked at TMA Logistics in the Port of Amsterdam, the Boreas is in its final completion and commissioning phase. At the same time, its decks will be equipped with wind turbine foundation equipment and installation tools in preparation for its first assignment.
Measuring 175 metres in length, the Boreas features a crane capable of lifting over 3,000 tonnes. Its 155-metre-high boom is designed for transporting and installing next-generation wind turbines and foundations. The vessel is supported by four legs, each 126 metres long, allowing it to jack up and operate in waters up to 70 metres deep.
To reduce emissions, the Boreas is fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to control nitrogen oxides (NOx). Additionally, a 6,000-kilowatt-hour battery pack manages peak loads and regenerates energy to lower fuel consumption and emissions.
The vessel will be christened in Rotterdam in June.
