Amprion has selected the Danish company NKT to provide cable capacities for the HVDC connection Korridor B and a significant portion of the EnLAG 14 line project.
The contracts amount to approximately EUR 1.2 billion in total. The order includes ±525 kV HVDC cables for project 48 of the Korridor B direct current project. This project involves an underground cable connection spanning around 430 kilometres between the Heide West substation in Schleswig-Holstein and Polsum in North Rhine-Westphalia. Additionally, NKT has been tasked with providing cables for the roughly 10-kilometre-long underground cabling section of the EnLAG 14 line project, specifically the Rhine crossing between Voerde and Rheinberg. Korridor B will facilitate the transmission of electricity from the North Sea coast to North Rhine-Westphalia starting in the early 2030s. The Rhine crossing forms part of EnLAG project no. 14, which involves grid reinforcement between Wesel and Osterath near Düsseldorf.
