Ocean Winds, the offshore wind company created by EDP Renewables and Engie, has installed the first turbine foundation at the Dieppe – Le Tréport offshore wind farm (EMDT). The 500MW project, located 17 km off Dieppe and 15.5 km from Le Tréport, will comprise 62 turbines with capacity to supply electricity for about 850,000 people.
The milestone follows the installation of the project’s offshore substation earlier this summer. The steel jacket foundations are fabricated in Spain and transported from the port of Cherbourg to the site by DEME’s installation vessel Innovation. Depending on water depth, the jackets measure 48 to 55 metres in height and are secured into pre-installed steel piles up to 63 metres long with diameters of 2.5 metres.
