Call for urgent action on offshore wind development in Spain

The Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE) and the Offshore Wind Forum are urging the government to publish the long-delayed ministerial order needed to launch Spain’s first offshore wind auction and to set a clear regulatory roadmap. Spain risks losing investment, industrial opportunities, and up to 7,500 jobs to countries like Portugal, France and Morocco, which are advancing their offshore wind sectors. Despite having strong industrial capacity, suitable zones, and infrastructure, Spain has seen no progress since Royal Decree 962/2024 was passed nearly a year ago.
RWE completes monopile installation at Sofia offshore wind farm

RWE has completed installation of the 100th and final monopile foundation at the 1.4 GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. The foundation campaign, which began in May 2024, was carried out over 14 months by Van Oord under an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract covering turbine foundations and array cables.
wpd signs power purchase agreement for onshore wind project in Japan

WindEurope supports European apprenticeship initiative to address skills gap

WindEurope has joined the European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA), committing to improve the availability, quality and visibility of apprenticeships across the wind energy sector in Europe. The wind industry currently employs nearly 400,000 people in Europe, with projections suggesting up to 600,000 will be needed by 2030. Addressing the shortage of skilled workers—particularly in vocational and technical roles—is a major challenge for the sector.
Mooreast and GeoProvider partner to support floating wind market

Mooreast, based in Singapore, has signed a framework agreement with Norway-based GeoProvider to enhance offshore data analysis capabilities for floating offshore renewable energy projects. The partnership gives Mooreast access to GeoProvider’s geotechnical and geophysical data library to improve data interpretation and support larger and more complex offshore developments. Both companies plan to collaborate on offshore wind projects as the floating sector moves towards commercial-scale deployment.
Fugro to conduct offshore surveys for EirGrid’s south coast project

Fugro has signed a seven-year framework agreement with EirGrid, Ireland’s electricity transmission operator, to carry out Geo-data surveys for the “Powering Up Offshore – South Coast” project. The programme will support the development of offshore substations and export cable routes to connect wind farms off Ireland’s southern coastline to the national grid.
Clare Horner appointed Director of Consulting at Natural Power
